Who I am:
Hi. I’m Charles.
I’m a retired U.S. Army Soldier. I served 23 years, and became a teacher when I left the service in 2017. I’ve been married to my wife, Jennifer, for 29 years, and we have 3 awesome kids together. Two of them are grown now, and we still have our youngest (15 years old) here at home.
I was an Artillery Surveyor (82C/13S) when I was in. Over the years I was stationed in Korea, Fort Hood, Germany, Fort Sill, and Fort Knox. I deployed to Iraq in 2003 as a part of OIF/OEF with the 1st Armored Division.
What this is:
Over the years, I’ve struggled. Most of the time I wasn’t even aware that I was struggling. Maybe one day I’ll talk about everything I dealt with, but for now, just know that it was hard. And it hurt. Not just me, but my family. Sometimes I feel like I’ve learned to deal with it, and then I realize I really don’t.
What I do know, is that there are a few things that really do work. I just have to stay focused on them. Because when I don’t, I fall into old habits that drag me down and sink further and further into darkness. And the next thing I know, I’m there again.
What works? It seems kinda simple when I write it down: prayer and exercise.
But, it’s not really that simple at all. Well…it is…and it isn’t. If you’re a man of faith–and I hope either you are, or you’re considering it–you know there are evil forces at work. Forces designed to pull us away from God, and to be accepted by this world.
We have to stand up against these forces. And the best way to do that is to stand firm in Christ. Love Him. Worship Him. Talk to Him. Let Him defeat these forces…not us.
We can’t.
But what we can do, that can help us keep focused on Christ, is to surround ourselves with a brotherhood who will extend a hand when we stumble. To keep each other accountable on the hard days. And there will be hard days. Because the more focused we become, the harder the enemy tries to take us down.
We’ve seen enemies. And we know the dangers in facing them without our brothers.
So, that’s why I’m creating this: Sons of Resolve – A brotherhood of men committed to faith, discipline, and becoming stronger in every area of life.
If you’re struggling brother, sign up for emails here. Talk to me. And as this thing grows (If it’s His will) there will be others who can witness to you. I want this to be a safe place for those who are carrying their cross.
I’m not trying to sell you anything. I’m trying to build a team that will withstand what the world throws at us.
